Freshers’ Travel Writing Competition

We all have a travel tale to tell…

Are you a budding Bill Bryson, Michael Palin, or Paul Theroux? Then here at The Bubble we have the perfect opportunity for you…

As you’re waiting with anticipation for your first term at Durham to begin, why not get involved in university life early by taking part in our writing competition, exclusively for new students?

We want to hear about your funniest travel story or greatest holiday mishap, whether it be an awkward cultural faux pas, a linguistic misapprehension, or a public transport nightmare. All tales are welcome, from the laugh out loud to the downright frustrating, including destinations from Stockton to Singapore, and Bolivia to Bournemouth!

In exchange for this chance to hone your writing skills in preparation for term time essays, and to gain valuable journalistic experience for your CV, you could even win a meal for two, including drinks and desserts, at Durham’s fantastic Claypath Deli. This bijoux restaurant specialises in using local produce to create its continental menu, making it the perfect place for new students to get a taste of the variety that England’s north-east has to offer…

So what’s stopping you? Put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, and get writing, get telling, and get involved!

All entries, which should not exceed 350 words, must be emailed to travel@thebubble.org.uk by midnight on October 17th 2014, with winners and runners up to be published in an article on October 22nd.
