Food for Your Ears – Happy Cat

“Duvdevan (Cherries)” by Happy Cat

Happy Cat, aka JP Thwaites, makes sweet sweet music like this using ‘Logic’.

A drummer-turned-vocalist-and-guitarist, Happy Cat uses audio samples as well as recordings of live instruments such as bass, guitar, drums and “odd percussive sounds”.

We challenged him to sum up his creative process in 10 words. What does he aim to produce when he sits down to make music?

“Something fresh, beautiful, intricate, able to rattle hefty sound systems”

For this we called him an oxymoron and he called us idiosyncratic.

Artists who he says have inspired him (in no particular order) are
Y, Sepalcure, Jethro Tull, The XX, Submotion Orchestra and Zack Christ. He didn’t specify in which way they inspire him. We think he just likes the last three letters of the alphabet.

JP has also helped set up a new music blog, www.wizardsleeve.co.uk, where the Wizardsleeve collective brings you their pick of the best in underground, forward-thinking sounds.
